Scott Bradford: Off on a Tangent

Fairfax County Schools, Closed

Posted March 1, 1999 4:52pm ET

It’s a cold, cold winters day
Is school cancelled today?
Children utter sighs of relief
As the television man debriefs
A day safe from the insane torment
Of the place to which we are sent
And nobody seems quite opposed
To hearing, “Fairfax County Schools, closed.”

And this is the message we bring
Telling our future not to sing
Taking away what makes them whole
Taking away their very soul
How can you call this education?
Don’t stand there and claim exculpation
Because you’re the one opposed
To hearing, “Fairfax County Schools, closed.”

The future minions smile and nod
The brainwashers speak and they applaud

And yes it is a very sad thing
But there’s no one left here to sing
Is this really best in the long run
For all our daughters and our sons?
God save us, if we live in a world
With a logic and a future so swirled
Where you’re the one opposed
To hearing, “Fairfax County Schools, closed.”

Scott Bradford has been building web sites and using them to say what he thinks since 1995, which tended to get him in trouble with power-tripping assistant principals at the time. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from George Mason University, but has spent most of his career (so far) working on public- and private-sector web sites. He is not a member of any political party, and brands himself an ‘independent constitutional conservative.’ In addition to holding down a day job and blogging about challenging subjects like politics, religion, and technology, Scott is also a devout Catholic, gun-owner, bike rider, and music lover with a wife and two cats.
