Scott Bradford: Off on a Tangent

Revolution Failed

Posted June 1, 2000, 4:52 p.m.

The class drones on, repeating what they say
They say I should pay attention, feed my brain
The boredom reaches deep enough to drive insane
And there’s enough loneliness here for us all

The clock tick-tocks on, it’s almost three o’clock
Most people think this s###’s hard as rock
There’s more than enough fear here for me to mock
And they all hope mother missed the call

So it’s all about education they say
It’s all about teaching us things
It’s all about making us think in the box
We can speak as long as we don’t sing
So it’s all about education they say
It’s all about making us learn
It’s all about making us feel the same
All about tying down the birds

So the students stood up, yelled, attacked
And began to search for the freedom they lacked
But soon grew lazy and went home for a snack
For that’s just what they had learned

The next day they returned and the teachers laughed
Until they all cried, and would have yearned for the past
If it had been any different; then at long last
They tied the future to the stake . . . and it burned

So it’s all about education they say
It’s all about making us learn
It’s all about making us feel the same
All about tying down the birds
So it’s all about education they say
It’s all about pride in small towns
It’s all about stomping out differences
It’s all about inches and pounds

Does your freedom rest in conformity?

So it’s all about education they say
It’s all about teaching us things
It’s all about making us think in the box
We can speak as long as we don’t sing
So it’s all about education they say
It’s all about making us learn
It’s all about making us feel the same
All about tying down the birds

Scott Bradford has been building web sites and using them to say what he thinks since 1995, which tended to get him in trouble with power-tripping assistant principals at the time. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from George Mason University, but has spent most of his career (so far) working on public- and private-sector web sites. He is not a member of any political party, and brands himself an ‘independent constitutional conservative.’ In addition to holding down a day job and blogging about challenging subjects like politics, religion, and technology, Scott is also a devout Catholic, gun-owner, bike rider, and music lover with a wife and two cats.
