Scott Bradford: Off on a Tangent

Free At Last

Posted October 8, 2000 8:53pm ET

Sunlight streams blindly into the darkness
And the clouds evaporate into dust
The time has come for quiet reflection
Before idle thoughts ease into rust
We’re losing light, the day is gone
And I’m left with no words to say
In the silence so loud do you wonder
If it’s right, what we’ve done today?

If today still were yesterday
And tomorrow were not today
Maybe I’d know how to tell you
The things I’m scared to say
Which way is it to the final trail,
The final wooded path?
When I walk and laughter fades
I’ll utter, “Free at last”
“Free at last”

And yet it plays for me again
It seems I’ve done this all before

Tonight in silent reflection
The wind becomes nothing but dust

If today still were yesterday
And tomorrow were not today
Maybe I’d know how to tell you
The things I’m scared to say
Which way is it to the final trail
The final wooded path
When I walk and laughter fades
I’ll utter, “Free at last”
“Free at last”

The past is not repeatable
And yet it plays for me again
It seems I’ve done this all before
Seems I’ve…

Scott Bradford has been building web sites and using them to say what he thinks since 1995, which tended to get him in trouble with power-tripping assistant principals at the time. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from George Mason University, but has spent most of his career (so far) working on public- and private-sector web sites. He is not a member of any political party, and brands himself an ‘independent constitutional conservative.’ In addition to holding down a day job and blogging about challenging subjects like politics, religion, and technology, Scott is also a devout Catholic, gun-owner, bike rider, and music lover with a wife and two cats.
