Scott Bradford: Off on a Tangent

Long, Long Week

Posted July 10, 2009, 8:48 p.m.

I’ve been more of a post-slacker than usual this week, I know. There’s been a lot going on, some of which is just normal stuff, some unique to this week, and some just-plain long overdue things. I’m not going to get into everything that occupied me this week, since a lot of it really isn’t that interesting, but here are a few highlights.

Last weekend we had a wonderful time with Wes and Sonya down south for the 4th of July weekend. Soon after we returned, my grandmother offered Melissa and me tickets to ‘Spring Awakening‘ at the Kennedy Center. We went to the show on Tuesday and, for a musical, it was surprisingly good. I usually don’t like musicals, in part because of the singing but mostly because most musicals lack depth. I like thought-provoking literature where I have to use my brain. This one was actually thought provoking.

On Wednesday, we went to the mall. I hate malls and hate shopping, but I was long overdue for some new work clothes, a suit that fits, and so on. We spent a small fortune, but I have work clothes for the next several years now. Of course, this took pretty much all evening.

Today, Melissa’s family came in for the weekend. Tomorrow, while Melissa’s family is occupied with some of the stuff they have going on, Melissa and I will be doing more house paperwork. Then, in the evening, we’re going to see Billy Joel and Elton John at Nationals Park. That should be awesome.

Like I said, that’s not even everything that’s been going on this week . . . it’s been, overall, pretty darn hectic. Maybe I’ll get to rest on Sunday afternoon (after church, of course) just in time to go back to work on Monday!

Scott Bradford has been building web sites and using them to say what he thinks since 1995, which tended to get him in trouble with power-tripping assistant principals at the time. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from George Mason University, but has spent most of his career (so far) working on public- and private-sector web sites. He is not a member of any political party, and brands himself an ‘independent constitutional conservative.’ In addition to holding down a day job and blogging about challenging subjects like politics, religion, and technology, Scott is also a devout Catholic, gun-owner, bike rider, and music lover with a wife and two cats.
