Scott Bradford: Off on a Tangent » Retailers

Scott Bradford has been building web sites and using them to say what he thinks since 1995, which tended to get him in trouble with power-tripping assistant principals at the time. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from George Mason University, but has spent most of his career (so far) working on public- and private-sector web sites. He is not a member of any political party, and brands himself an ‘independent constitutional conservative.’ In addition to holding down a day job and blogging about challenging subjects like politics, religion, and technology, Scott is also a devout Catholic, gun-owner, bike rider, and music lover with a wife and two cats.

I wrote just over a year ago about how dishonorable our society has become in many ways. One particular area I pointed out was in business how things are advertised very simply (e.g., ‘unlimited Internet!’) while the reality is often much more complex and contradictory (e.g., ’2gb per month’—which is not ‘unlimited’). Another area of [...]

Overview I wrote back in April about why I didn’t have an e-reader, even though I’m a fairly avid reader. Then, two months later, I ordered an Amazon Kindle 2. The only thing that really changed in those two months was the Kindle’s price, which dropped precipitously from $250 to a much more reasonable (but [...]

Way back in January 2007, I wrote about a poor experience I had with Best Buy’s in-store pickup. I really like the idea of in-store pickup. In theory (and as-advertised) it works like this: you go to Best Buy’s web site, put the stuff you want in your electronic cart, say you want in-store pickup, [...]

Overview I purchase my music legally. My collection—over 4,200 songs—has been laboriously obtained over many years through legitimate music retailers, and I allow myself a monthly budget of about $20 for buying music (sometimes more, sometimes less depending on my other, more important financial obligations). I am, needless to say, a music lover. Pink Floyd, [...]

Call me crazy, but I always thought that the Christmas season—which of course revolves around the Christian holiday celebrating the birth of Christ—probably ought to stick to the four weeks before Christmas, and then jingle around until perhaps New Years. This seems reasonable, as that’s about as long as the Advent period runs before Christmas [...]
