Improve on Red vs. Blue: Winner-Take-All Systems Leave Out Too Many Voters

I don’t necessarily agree with every little thing William Raspberry says in this article, but he makes a lot of good points and I agree with the underlying premise—our system is screwed up and needs work.

No matter who wins in this election cycle, the nation loses. The lies, the exaggerations, and the contentiousness does nobody any good. The winner-take-all electoral system is partially to blame.

If either candidate wins this election decisively, things will be okay . . . but if it’s as close as it was in 2000—or closer—I fear for the stability and legitimacy of our elected government.

Perhaps it is time for a change.
