Weekend Happenings; Busyness Continues Unabated

So, we were driving to the luau at Chris’s on Saturday, and we had to make a stop to pick up some sodas. There’s a Food Lion near Chris’s house, so we figured we’d just stop there. We were driving down the road at about 45 miles-per-hour, and this crazy little bird flew out right in front of me and I swore we were going to hit it, but I didn’t hear the distinctive *thud* that I was expecting and assumed I had barely missed him.

Then, about 10 seconds later, the bird flew away from the front of my car. That’s right, the bird somehow managed to land on my front bumper at 45 miles-per-hour, hang out for 10 seconds, and then fly away unharmed. It was about the strangest bird-related thing that has ever happened to me.

Anyway, our busy weekend went well and the busyness continues. We did a fair amount of work in Petersburg before heading to the luau (and going a longer, busier way to avoid the sinkhole) and we enjoyed the festivities as always.

Then we got home on Sunday, rested for a while, and did end up going to the Stevie Nicks show at Nissan Pavilion, which was enjoyable as expected. We saw Stevie with Fleetwood Mac in 2003, which was great, but it was really neat to hear her do some of her excellent solo work in addition to the Fleetwood Mac material (and to have better seats than we did for the Fleetwood Mac show).

The opening act was another of my favorites, Vanessa Carlton. Like when we saw her in 2004, she gave nice little intros between the songs and played them all without any backup musicians. What was really exciting was that she played some excellent new material that is slated for her next album (which I’ll definitely look out for).

Free time yesterday was largely dedicated to finishing the wedding photo album site, which is now available, and today we’re back to all the post-wedding fun stuff. We discovered that the Wachovia branch in Vienna is open ’til 7pm now, so we’ll be going up there and combining accounts and such (just one among many financial to-dos over the coming weeks). After doing more of that kind of stuff all week, we’ll be heading down to Bedford for the weekend (first time as a wedded couple!).

Anyway, that’s enough for now. Talk to you all later!
