Security Notice Affecting Main Eeltank.com Page

On or around May 3, 2005, there was a security breach at our hosting provider that resulted in a piece of malicious code being added to the main Eeltank.com page (this did not directly affect Off on a Tangent, Melissa’s site, or the Wedding Website). The malicious code loaded information from a website which may have attempted to install a virus or spyware. That site was shut down on or around May 8.

If the breach was successful, it would only have affected users of Microsoft Windows operating systems and the Internet Explorer browser (including AOL, Netscape 8, and other browsers which use the IE display engine). Mac and Linux users, as well as Windows users who use the Mozilla Firefox browser, should not be affected.

Windows users should run anti-virus and anti-spyware software regularly anyway, but anybody who uses Windows and IE and visited the main Eeltank.com site between May 3 and May 8, 2005, should check their machines immediately to ensure that no malicious software was installed. Anti-virus software is commercially available from McAfee and Symantec, while anti-spyware software is available free from Microsoft and Lavasoft. We apologize for any inconvenience.
