Website 17.1 Revision [Updated]

Today I launched a minor revision to Off on a Tangent which brings the version to 17.1. The changes are somewhat subtle, but I think you’ll appreciate them.

  • Link Styling Improvements: Underlines/borders are nicer looking, the mouse-over effect is more obvious in most browsers, and Internet Explorer users now see the same link styling as users of standards-compliant browsers.
  • Spacing Improvements: I’ve increased the line-spacing for text content from 1.25 to 1.5, which should make longer items much easier to read. I’ve also forced IE to listen to the line spacing setting (which it had ignored before), so IE users will see a much larger relative improvement. The spacing in the ‘What’s New’ blurble is much-improved as well.
  • Compliance Improvements: It won’t be obvious to most end-users, but I’ve done work to make the site more compliant with the XHTML and CSS standards. The few remaining validation errors are caused by CMS code that I cannot easily control. A compliant site is more likely to work consistently in all browsers.
  • User Participation Change (added 10/31): Somebody has been giving lots of random content items 1/5 ratings, and it is clear they are doing so simply to be mean. Thus, I have disabled the ratings feature (which wasn’t very popular anyway). I welcome criticism—so long as it is constructive—so if you honestly don’t like something you can always sign up for an account and leave a comment.
