In the winter, the woods were bare and exposed. With all their leaves brown and damp on the ground, the trees were little more than clusters of bare, dead branches. Light shone through during the day, and the cold wash of moonlight at night. I loved the cold; I hated the exposure.

Gutierrez tapped for Commerce Secty.

Carlos Gutierrez, Chief Executive of the Kellogg Corporation, has been tapped by President Bush to be the next Commerce Secretary. Gutierrez, whose family fled Cuba when he was six, will likely succeed Donald Evans who resigned shortly after Bush’s reelection.

All Presidential nominations for cabinet positions must be confirmed by the Senate.

Prompt: Where have lives been transformed this past year at COF?

When I was asked to speak this evening about where lives have been transformed by Community of Faith, the first thing that popped into my head was a house in Petersburg, Virginia.

Many of you are surely aware that this church has been sending teams to work with the Petersburg Urban Ministries over the last year or two—seven trips so far, I believe—and I’ve had the opportunity to go on three of those trips.

Scott Bradford is a writer and technologist who has been putting his opinions online since 1995. He believes in three inviolable human rights: life, liberty, and property. He is a Catholic Christian who worships the trinitarian God described in the Nicene Creed. Scott is a husband, nerd, pet lover, and AMC/Jeep enthusiast with a B.S. degree in public administration from George Mason University.
