Ed. Note: These were my prepared remarks for a proposed amendment to Resolution #1: A Resolution on Resolutions at the 2006 Annual Conference Session of the Virginia Conference United Methodist Church. The resolution itself can be found on Page 137 of the Book of Reports (PDF link). The proposed amendment was co-written by Rev. Rob Vaughn and me; the explanatory remarks are my own.
Grownups Only, Please
I am tired of dealing with children.
If I were merely speaking of actual children the statement would be accurate enough, but I’m mainly talking about people who are legally adults and yet continue to think and behave like children. For many years I have humored these people when I come across them, but that ends today.
How Bad Do You Have to Go?
When I was in high school, I—like all my fellow students—wasn’t allowed to use the restroom without teacher approval. My senior year, they tightened this already-ludicrous rule to allow only two trips to the restroom per week.
America May Be Ready for a New Political Party
Some of you may know that I came very close to joining the Republican Party last year. Sadly, the Democratic Party has not yet provided a viable alternative—so I still find myself sympathizing with the Republicans as the lesser of two evils.
Announcing Website 18
I’m pleased to announce the launch of Website 18, the eighteenth version of my personal website. This is almost exclusively a look-and-feel change from the previous version. I had a number of technological/usability improvements planned, but I will be implementing those along with a major CMS upgrade later this year (this will save me the double-effort of implementing new things now, then having to re-implement them for the new CMS version).
