More GMU insanity

Well, my respect for my school just got bumped down another notch.

On Tuesday, I have lots of classes. I have Religion at 9:00, Intro Journalism at 10:30, Management of Information Systems at 1:30, Computers and Communication at 4:30, and Gov’t and Politics in the Middle East and North Africa at 7:20.

Rant Version VK 4.0 2004

Once upon a time, somebody came up with a system of versioning for software. The first public release of a program would be version 1.0. Minor revisions to that version would be 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, etc. Major updates would cycle to the next number, like 2.0.

Orwell, George—1984

In my review of Ray Bradbury’s “Fahrenheit 451,” I said that “Fahrenheit” was probably more realistic than George Orwell’s 1949 masterpiece, “1984.” But what “1984” lacks in believability, it makes up for in depth and in brilliance.

Heinlein, Robert A.—I Will Fear No Evil

The best kinds of stories are the kind that broaden your horizons, give you new things to consider, and leave you thinking about them for days, weeks, or months after you finish reading them. Robert A. Heinlein, one of the most prolific and beloved science fiction writers in history, rarely fails to meet that criteria. But his 1970 novel, “I Will Fear No Evil,” goes above-and-beyond even his high standard.
